As we slowly inch towards spring, most gardeners know it is time to begin preparing plants for springtime. This can be a long and tedious process to begin with, but it will provide amazing plants during the later months. If you are one of those gardeners, we have some ideas for you!

The best plants to start putting into your planter before the spring season are:

1. Cold-Tolerant Veggies: Vegetables like carrots tend to tolerate the frost and can be planted directly in the ground in mid to late February. Other examples of cold-tolerant vegetables include potatoes and radishes.

2. Indoor Herbs: Indoor herbs are great to start in the winter months before they mature in the spring. These plants can also be used for everyday meals. Examples of indoor herbs that are great to grow at this time of year include basil, chives, and parsley.

3. Annuals and Perennials: There is still time to begin planting both annual and perennial flowers during February. Annuals that you can begin to plant around this time of year will remain indoors until the warmer weather, as they require very long growing seasons. Annuals that can be planted in February are pansies, poppies, forget-me-nots, and many more. When it comes to perennials, consider flowers such as evening primroses, violas, and bachelor buttons.
