Our Favorite Types of Decks
Posted March 7, 2022 to Before You Buy: Tips, Advice, Checklists.
Some of you probably think that all decks are the same. However, that’s not the case. There are several different kinds of decks that homeowners can have built around their properties. At Sierra Structures, we have some favorite ones, and this blog is all about describing them.
Before we start, we just wanted to say that any deck you decide to add is a welcome addition in our book. We wanted to give you some ideas on how to give your home and property just a little bit more spice by building a unique style that is sure to be functional and add value to your home.
Here’s a couple of our favorite types of decks at Sierra Structures:
1. Multi-tier decks: If you have a large yard, or if it changes in elevation, a multi-tiered/story deck is a great option. Benefits include maximizing spaces, making it easy to navigate differences in terrain, and changing up the décor based on the level. One flat deck is great when the yard is flat, but if the property slopes quite a bit, then consider a multi-tier deck to enhance the value.
2. Wrap-around deck: Classic, southern homes have long, wrap-around front porches. It has always added to the charm of the house. So, why can’t a back patio wrap around as well? There’s no reason why it has to be symmetrical either, so we love it when we can get creative and extend portions of it out to increase living space off of a bedroom, dining room, or family room.
3. Detached deck: There’s no written rule that says a patio deck must be attached to the home. A detached deck can be positioned anywhere on a property and be accessed via a walkway. It’s also a good way to use property space that can’t be used otherwise because of bumpy or uneven terrain.
Of course, there’s always more options, but these three are ideas we hope you consider for your new deck. To get a quote or for more design ideas, contact us at Sierra Structures. As your hometown deck experts, we will always be here to help.
