A Pet Owner’s Guide to Finding the Perfect Fence
Posted August 24, 2021 to Before You Buy: Tips, Advice, Checklists.
When choosing to build and install a fence, there are a lot of factors to consider: function, aesthetics, price, and for some, your pets. The right fence will keep your pet in your yard safe, so you don’t have to worry about them getting out. Different pets, though, will require different fence needs. Having a good understanding of your pet can help you to find the perfect fence for your backyard.
Top things to consider when finding a pet-friendly fence are:
- Height: Depending on your pet, the height of your fence will be important. Some pets like to jump higher than other animals and hop fences which should be considered. Privacy fences and some vinyl fences can provide the height needed to keep your pet safe and within the fence, so it cannot get lost or injured.
- Width: Some fences have spaces between them, and if the width is too wide a pet can easily sneak out through the cracks. Opting out of an ornamental fence and choosing a vinyl or a rail and wire fence would be the right direction to go.
- Durability: When choosing a fence for your pet, you are going to want a durable one. Life happens, and things end up broken or damaged, so choosing a durable fence to keep your pet safe is a smart decision. Metal fences are very durable, but in the chance, they get damaged, professional help will most likely be needed to repair. On the other hand, rail and wire fences are not the most durable, as wood can be easier to damage than metal, but are much simpler to repair on your own. This choice is dependent on your wants when it comes to fence maintenance.
