Getting a fence is exciting but knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each fence is key! Also, knowing what type of fence will best fit your needs and suit you better.

When it comes to deciding if you need a wood fence or a vinyl fence, there are 3 key factors to consider:

  1. Price: Vinyl fencing is more expensive than wood fencing initially, but a wood fence will always need repairs and continuous maintenance, so it ends up being more pricier in the long run.

  1. Maintenance: Vinyl fencing has little to no maintenance, it is a super durable material called polyvinyl chloride. Vinyl also outlasts fences because they are made out of a strong composition and weather factors like the sun and heat don’t affect them. Wood, on the other hand, will require continuous maintenance throughout their life. Factors like weather, insects, and rot can degrade a wooden fence and make it look faded or out of shape. A lot of people stain their wood to make it a desired color, therefore over time you will have to restrain it so it can maintain its color. For damages, for vinyl fencing you would have to replace a whole panel which is expensive as compared to wood you can fix a small spot with a matching piece of wood.

  1. Aesthetic Taste:  One benefit of wood is if your taste changes, you can refinish your fence and stain it to be any color you want. Wood is flexible on letting you change its appearance as opposed to Vinyl you are stuck with the same design and color. Wood just has a natural feeling to it, and a lot of people go with wood fencing because of this regardless of its drawbacks.
