As we continue through hurricane season, many Raleigh homeowners are concerned about damage to their home. When we are planning fence installations around the Triangle during this time of year, we answer many questions about potential risks to a home’s fence as well as how to prevent it. Our team at Sierra Structures always share a few things to consider when it comes to storm damage.

3 types of storm damage that could impact a fence are:

Wind Damage: Wind damage is the biggest cause of damage to fences. The best way to mitigate this risk is by choosing a fence contractor with high quality material and a good construction system. The better your fence is constructed and reinforced, the less likely you are to deal with wind damage.

Rain Damage: Depending on how often your fence receives rain, it could lead to wood rot overtime. This typically takes years, especially in the Raleigh area. However, if you are concerned about this, we would highly recommend an alternative material than wood.

Hail Damage: Hail damage is the toughest to predict and protect. Hail damage is so dependent on size and can damage any type of fence.

Overall, we suggest our customers update their homeowner’s insurance policy as soon as their fence is installed to ensure you have enough coverage in case of storm damage.
